Women's Designer Jay Godfrey Celebrates Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week With Expansion Into Menswear

Prominent women's fashion designer, Jay Godfrey, is celebrating Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week by expanding into menswear. This trendy designer prepares to explode on men's retail shelves with Manhattan Chic styles. Bagir International, whose brands have appeared on almost every major red carpet event including the Grammy Awards, Oscar Awards, MTV Movie Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards, will be exclusively creating his men's tailored clothing collection.

After a career on Wall Street, Jay Godfrey quickly cultivated his signature aesthetics and launched his women's apparel brand in 2006. Hollywood's hottest leading ladies and fashion-forward, glamorous women are choosing Godfrey designs for red carpet and public appearances. Godfrey's designs have a loyal celebrity following and he is proud to have dressed Megan Fox, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, Kate Walsh, Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Eva Longoria Parker, Angie Harmon, Zoe Saldana, Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Eve, Carrie Underwood, Zoe Kravitz, and Kim Kardashian to name a few.

By partnering with Bagir, a recognized global industry leader in textile innovations and apparel brands, Godfrey is poised to repeat the huge success enjoyed by his women's collections. Bagir International, which specializes in creating lifestyles and household brand names, is a wise choice and excellent pairing for Godfrey. Both Bagir and Godfrey have an impressive loyal customer base consisting mainly of A-list celebrities, stylists and fashion conscious newsmakers. Bagir brands were the style choice for Jason Mraz, Alice In Chains , Dennis Keene, Adrian Grenier, Henry Ian Cusick, Josh Sussman, Edin Gali, Crispin Glover, Russel Wetanson, Mike Inez, Overtone (the a cappella musi women's jackets c group featured in Clint Eastwood's Movie "Invictus "with Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman) and Lawrence Zarian from Entertainment Tonight.

"Jay Godfrey is the perfect choice for men with a refined lifestyle while maintaining a rebellious element of youth. With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in its new venue what better time to join the celebration with announcing his expansion," says Tim Danser, Vice President of Marketing, Bagir International.

This year Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week opened at their new location, Lincoln Center. After two years of planning, the new venue provides more access, more buzz and more options for the throngs of fashionistas that descend upon the world famous tents each year. Having the tents take over Lincoln Center elevates fashion to the domain of fine arts. The iconic fountain of Lincoln Center was the centerpiece of a mind-blowing Vogue Runway show and provided the public and shutterbugs unprecedented access and visuals. As the official opening of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this runway show was the kickoff event for the 2nd Annual Fashion Night Out event where retailers around the world joined in by keeping their doors open late.

Fashion Week provides a look into the future for colors and designs that will hit retail shelves next spring. Jay Godfrey and Bagir are a step ahead by providing VIP guests from MRketNY a sneak peak at Godfrey's visions for menswear. The crème de la crème of fashion and menswear celebrated Style Manhattan Chic during an invite only reception hosted by Bagir at celebrity hotspot the Atelier Sky Lounge earlier this summer.

About Jay Godfrey:
New York-based designer, Jay Godfrey, is the founder and creative director behind his eponymous collection of sleek, sexy and sophisticated designs. Perpetually inspired by the chic New York woman, Godfrey's goal as a designer is to meld the classic tailoring techniques of Savile Row with modern silhouettes and luxurious fabrics. The result is his distinctive contemporary collection of dresses and separates that accentuate the female figure.

Godfrey realized his dream of becoming a designer while working his first summer job at Hugo Boss. He studied finance at Montreal's McGill University in order to gain a grounding in business and accounting. Upon graduating, Godfrey headed to Wall Street and worked for Citigroup. While learning the finer points of finance, Jay's goal of designing a collection led him to Parsons School of Design. An internship with Oscar de la Renta fine-tuned the young designer's style and technique, and helped him determine the ultimate Jay Godfrey woman.

Last year ushered in new accolades for Jay Godfrey. Parsons The New School for Design presented the designer with the 2009 Parsons Alumni Achievement Award in recognition of his talent and recent accomplishments; in addition Godfrey appeared on America's Next Top Model as a special guest designer, where he had the honor of dressing the contestants for a red carpet event.
Jay Godfrey is sold in Barney's, Intermix, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Harvey Nichols Hong Kong and Holt Renfrew, as well as numerous luxury boutiques worldwide.
