Despite Cholera Outbreak, Mattapan Tech Will Hold Pilot Project Management Workshops in Haiti. Students Launch Campaign to Raise Contingency Funds

Despite the Cholera outbreak, The Mattapan School Tech will hold pilot Project Management workshops in Haiti focused on proposal writing and project planning. Students laun women's coats ch campaign to raise contingency funds.

Mattapan Tech, a Boston-based technology learning center, will hold pilot workshops on November 20, 23 and 26 in Haiti focused on proposal writing and project planning in November. In the aftermath of the January 12th earthquake that killed thousands of Haitians and destroyed Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, local and international organizations rushed to Haiti in an effort to help with rebuilding. Mattapan Tech is an institution specializing in providing project management and computer technology training in Massachusetts. The school designed a series of free workshops to update the skills of managers of non-profit and private organizations in anticipation that these skilled project managers will be a necessity for a successful Haiti reconstruction project.

To assist in this difficult endeavor, a group of Wentworth Institute of Technology alumni with extended project management experience and project management instructors at Mattapan Tech will travel to Haiti on a 10-day mission.

Despite the outbreak of Cholera that hit Haiti last week and which already caused nearly 300 deaths in Port-au-Prince's neighboring towns, last night the volunteers of the Greater Boston/ Mattapan School of Technology reiterated their engagement to depart from Boston on November 20.

Harold Newcomb, Jr., a Vietnam War US Army veteran, and Karrie Ann Jean, the director of Mattapan Tech, have been very instrumental in raising funds to support the mission and keeping the crew motivated and focused on their specific humanitarian goal.

Christine Malcolm, the new head of the student committee at Mattapan Tech launched an initiative aimed at collecting children's and women's clothing for Haiti and money for a contingency fund to cover unexpected expenses in response to the possible escalated violence related to the upcoming election and threats cause by the Cholera outbreak.

Katleen Felix, the US coordinator of zafen.org, an organization that provides financial and logistic support to small projects in Haiti and the Clinton Global Initiative have also renewed their commitment to this endeavor.

Topshop Announces New Make-Up Collection for Spring and Summer

Topshop has announced the launch of its new make-up collection for SS11. Sandstorm is a capsule trend collection which will capture warm tones and neon colours.

With a palette of sorbet tones and sultry hues, Sandstorm contrasts metallic finishes with sun-bleached neons to create a versatile collection. Sandstorm captures a form of self-expression that embodies the spirit of Festival dressing. The capsule collection is a crossover of versatile products and formulas that blend and build from dusk until dawn.

Matte rose-flushed packaging with metallic flecks references sunbeams that gleam over compacts, palettes and lipstick casings. The hand-drawn sketches on the outer casing depict a desert-scape, mirroring the make-up encased within.

Lizzie Dawson, senior designer at Topshop said "Heavily influenced by the colourful and spiritual Burning Man festival based in the Nevada desert, I was very much inspired by the eclectic mix of sun-bleached neons and tarnished, dusty metallics that create the landscape of the festival. The Sandstorm collection includes a Cheek Duo which features a two-tone palette that intertwines a sorbet flush with bronze highlights. The Cheek Duo is designed to create a subtle glow to contrast and compliment against the metallic pigments of both eyes and nails.

The collection also features Metallic Mousse Eye-shadow, Eye Duo, Eye Crayon, Liner, Lips, Gloss Stick, Nail Duo and Nails. In line with the new make-up collection launch, Topshop has created two online tutorials which will help create bespoke looks with the Sandstorm products. The 'Grunge Rock' look fuses smudged, smoky eyes with colour-pop lips to create a daringly different look. Callahan & Blaine Announces That Multi-National Corporation Agrees to Pay $6 Million to Settle Bicycle Accident Lawsuit

A large multi-national corporation has agreed to pay a 32-year-old bicyclist $6 million to settle a lawsuit scheduled for trial in Orange County Superior Court, according to Callahan & Blaine, attorneys for the bicyclist. The names of all parties are confidential under the terms of the settlement agreement. Callahan & Blaine noted that the settlement is one of the largest bicycle accident settlements in the history of Orange County, California.

    Court documents state the cyclist was injured on November 12, 2009, when an airport shuttle bus pulled out in front of him, rolling over the cyclist and fracturing his pelvis in several places. As a result, the cyclist was left with chronic pain in his neck, back and pelvis and other internal injuries.

    According to court documents, on the night of the accident, the Defendant's driver pulled the shuttle bus up to the airport parking exit and stopped. As the cyclist proceeded to ride past the front of the bus, the shuttle bus accelerated forward, rolling over the cyclist and fracturing his pelvis. The shuttle driver admitted that he fashion coats online did not see the cyclist approaching on his bicycle and failed to yield.

    Court filings show that the Defendant Multi-National Corporation intended to present evidence at trial that on November 12, 2009, the cyclist took several doses of Xanax and was therefore allegedly impaired. The defense was also going to present evidence that the cyclist's toxicology screening showed THC -- the active chemical in marijuana – in his system at the time of the accident. The defense also contended that the cyclist was riding by the Orange County Airport at night, wearing dark clothing without any reflective safety features.

    The cyclist's attorney, Daniel J. Callahan of Callahan & Blaine, expressed his pleasure with the settlement, stating, "This was a very serious injury suffered by our client. Fortunately, he will now be able to address all of his medical needs going forward and live comfortably for the rest of his life."

        Mr. Callahan further noted, "Given some of the adverse facts and defenses available to the Defendant Corporation, this was an excellent resolution."

    Daniel J. Callahan previously represented two women in a record-breaking $50 million settlement against the City of Dana Point for injuries suffered while jogging down Pacific Coast Highway (Neria v. City of Dana Point, Orange County, CA Superior Court, Case No. 06CC10395). That settlement is the highest personal injury settlement in the history of the United States.

        Mr. Callahan also obtained the highest jury verdict in Orange County history, $934 million, representing Beckman Coulter of Fullerton, California in a business dispute with Flextronics, a large multi-billion dollar corporation in Northern California (Beckman Coulter Inc. v. Flextronics Int'l Ltd., Orange County Super. Ct. No. 01CC08395).

    A jury trial was scheduled to commence on March 26, 2012 at the Orange County Superior Court. A request for dismissal of the case was filed today.
